3) And of those stadiums, how many are available/affordable to American Football clubs?
3. Heilbronn Frankenstadion 18.000
Very good question. The city of Heilbronn has shunned American football since they had their first team in 1984 (Heilbronn Hunters)
The stadium itself was built in 1920 for the FC Heilbronn (who at the time were great, but are now also in the Landesliga..)
Even after the team made it into the 2.Liga in 1985, they wanted nothing to do with American football.
Now the stadium stands around and more or less collects dust for the city of Heilbronn. We have asked about holding our games there, but the council seems to think that
1. American football will only tear up the grass to an irreparable extent (despite them never having seen a game of gridiron)
2. Our unsponsored team can afford to pay the thousands of euro they demand for us to use a stadium that is unused 11.5 months out of the year.
Hell, they don't even invite the football team to the yearly sports awards banquet.
Anyways, Im going off topic here a bit. The stadium looks great, but only reached a capacity crowd twice in its' entire existence, both times during major league soccer games. If the soccer teams couldnt pull in the crowds, the gridiron teams dont stand a chance.
Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then you are a mile away AND you have their shoes.
