Linebacker Lance Briggs, who'd threatened to hold out the entire season, agreed Wednesday to the one-year, $7.2 million deal the Bears offered when they put the franchise tag on him.
Briggs, a Pro Bowl selection last season when the Bears made the Super Bowl, had been unhappy when the Bears designated him as their franchise player.
The Bears report to training camp today at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais. The first practice is Friday.Briggs had skipped the team's off-season workouts and minicamp.
A veteran of four NFL seasons, Briggs was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl following the 2006 season, in which he recorded a career-high 176 tackles with 117 solo tackles and 10 tackles for loss, a sack, 2 interceptions, 9 pass break-ups, 4 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
After starting all 16 games for the third consecutive season, the 2006 second-team AP all-pro has started 61 of 64 career games played.
Priest Holmes is coming back!
Priest Holmes, RB KC
News: Chiefs RB Priest Holmes, who missed much of the last two seasons with a major spinal injury, will report to the Chiefs' training camp and attempt to resume his playing career, the club announced. Holmes has been given medical clearance and never did fill out his retirement papers, so he may return like any player can at training camp on July 27. "Herm (Edwards) and I sat down with Priest here in Kansas City and discussed his decision and our thoughts on his return," GM Carl Peterson said. "We may put him on active PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) initially to gauge his football conditioning and to see how he feels after non-contact drills. But he indicated very strongly to me that he wanted to play and his motivation was to help the Kansas City Chiefs win a championship. ... Without question by what Priest Holmes has contributed to this franchise, he deserves the right and opportunity to play again for the Chiefs."
